Farmers in the city yesterday from Oakley and Oreana reported that Coulter's Mill, an old landmark on the Sangamon about twelve miles northeast of this city, was washed away by the high water Sunday night. Sunday afternoon Mr. Coulger had a force of men at work in the mill trying to save some of the grain that it contained. They were driven out and that afternoon there was five feet of water in the mill. News came that the mill had floated away Sunday night. A large number of farmers who had corn cribs in the low lands of the Sangamon in Friends Creek and Oakley townships are said to have suffered heavy losses.
*It is interesting to note that the Dantown bridge over Friends Creek was also washed away, along with a number of other small bridges across the creek.
