Lost Macon County
Newberg Road Bridge
Iron Bridge Across Friends Creek to Remains of Old West Danville
This old iron through truss bridge was built across Friends Creek in the late
1800's. Located 1 mile east of Argenta, Illinois, the bridge connected Newberg on the west side
of the creek to West Danville on the east side of the creek. After years of neglect, it fell
into disrepair and was unsafe for traffic. The construction of Interstate 72 bisected the road,
and the bridge was finally torn down in December 2008, replaced by modern concrete.
It's only a matter of time before what remains of West Danville are torn down
as well and its existence obliterated from the landscape.
